| Which method works for you? Notes home, talking face to face or a phone call? Do different situations call for different approaches? |

Notes, reminder note, verbal reminder (typical response: "Oh, I don't remember reading that"), note hung on door, pleading with children to remind their parents....
Seriously though I find for general business stuff such as calendar, needed items, that a note for most families is sufficient. I post a calendar on the exit door as well. For more difficult things such as behavioral issues, failure to follow rules, etc a private conversation works best. If you are not as comfortable with face to face, a phone call will do. It really depends on the situation. _________________ Will you dare to be a fire in a world that would love to quench your flame? |

I agree - different situation require different handling.
What kinds of situations are you thinking of?
I have several different ways that I communicate to the parents what goes on each day, and I also speak to the parents face to face at drop off and pick up. |

I have a short conversation with the parents both at drop off and pick up I have found that one DCD who does all pick up and drop off doesn't relay to his wife so I have metioned I could send her a short E-mail for needed items or to short little notes on cute things her son does. for some parents though nothing really works they remember what they want to remember.

You are so right! Some parents have "selective" memory and that's the way they are! |

Mostly face to face, however, I do have a client who has someone else drop off and pick up her child. We communicate via email. I also welcome parents emailing me during the day to inquire how their child is doing...... Works out fine!
Major announcements I email them all and talk to them all face to face when possible.

I have one mom that I email. I have another mom that I text (her email goes to her blackberry anyway and texting is faster for me). I make phone calls to moms or dads when needed - potty success, not feeling well, etc.
I send home notes about upcoming events no more than once a month - or else they get tossed before they are read.
I also have a ning site that listes upcoming events and has photos.
I try to talk to eveyone a little as they arrive and go home. Some times it is chaotic when more than one arrives or leaves at the same time!!
A couple of times I kept forgetting to mention that I was running low on diapers - so I wrote on the diaper!! I used to do daily sheets for my little ones, but the parents did not read them. I give them a daily update on feetings and BMs - the important things. _________________ Make a difference in the life of a child |
