I was hoping to be able to attend this conference in April, since it is only about 4 hrs. driving from me. But, it doesn't look like the families can find substitutes for their children, so I probably won't go.
The last possibility is to get a sub or two to come in here. I am pretty comfortable getting subs for a few hours, or a 1/2 day, but for some reason I'm not comfortable doing it for the whole day.
I also feel like I need 2 subs for the 7 children that would be here that day. I am use to 7 and it works fine for me, but somebody coming in "cold turkey" and for a full day? That's a lot of responsibility. Two subs isn't easy to find.
Well, I wasn't sure if I should go, so asked the parents if they would be able to find family or friends to cover so I could close that day. Maybe the fact that they can't find help is my answer to whether I should go or not.
The conference just looks great.

This is the frustrating part of home child care!! Try to go if you can! It is so refreshing and recharging to go to a good workshop!
I find that lunch is the most chaotic time. Maybe you can find a second sub to come for a couple of hours during lunch prep, serve and clean-up time?
There are home daycares here that just tell the families they are closed and let them fend for themselves - which is kind of harsh on short notice. You are trying to work with them instead of just announcing you are closing.
Do you have any friends who would help you out in return for a favor? Any stay at home moms in your area? Any college students who might be available that day?
Keep us posted!! _________________ Make a difference in the life of a child |
